For Hole in the Wall five artists were commissioned by Open Empty Spaces to produce site specific work for a 8"x11"x6"  metal alcove (see images of the space below).

The artists chosen were Megan Broadmeadow, Veronica Forsgren, Mark Houghton, Brendan Lyons and Rebecca Spooner and the project ran from 1st May - 5th June 2009.

The space that was used is located on Diana Street in Roath, Cardiff and is a small, rectangular metal box set into the exterior wall on the side of a Peacocks Clothes Shop.

Situated just off Albany Road, (a main shopping street), Hole in the Wall was in a discreet position, but benefitted from a high level of foot traffic, consisting of people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Small shops, charity shops, cafes and restaurants/takeaways make up the majority of businesses on Albany Road. The area has a high student population and an eclectic mix of peoples and though not a bad area, the locality is reasonable run down and has not fallen prey to sterile regeneration schemes unlike several other places in Cardiff.

We requested that artists make small scale works which look at the idea of the box 'framing' the work and and its locaction in a specific urban environment. The artists chosen for this project all produced interesting and unique pieces which carefully and insightfully refected the setting of the space.
