What appears to be an adapted black polythene sheet, attached to the wall with tape in order to cover a hole, is in fact just an area of dried and unsupported paint alone. All elements of the work are made of artists paint - no other material is used. The rectangle is framed by a border of striking black and yellow paint, which resembles standard hazard tape. The painting is attached to the wall using further paint as an adhesive.
Through experimentation with the techniques of painting, and the material of artists' paint itself, Brendan Lyons uses the traditions and references of Western painting as a base from which to investigate various issues of interest, including perception, context, preconception, ambiguity, and reference.
